Shimba Hills lodge
Locatie: De Shimba Hills Lodge is de enige ’tree lodge’ in het kustregenwoud van Kenia. The Shimba Lodge ligt in het hart van the Shimba Hills National Park in Kwale district. Het werd een bekroond ontwerp toen het in 1986 werd gebouwd en werd in gebruik genomen als alternatief voor de kust van de beroemde Tree Tops. Tijdens de hele constructie lag de nadruk op natuurlijke materialen waarbij cederhout domineerde, wat resulteerde in een warm en ontspannend interieur.
Kamers: Er zijn 13 twee persoons kamers, 3 driepersoons kamers en 2 suites die allen uitkijken over de drinkwater plaats.
Kamer faciliteiten: The twin and triple rooms share washroom facili[es opposite the rooms. The washrooms are spacious (34 SM) and six rooms
share two washroom facili[es which were renovated in 2015.
The lodge has two suites, both with a living room, bedroom and en-suite bathroom. The wooden balcony is overlooking the and can be accessed from both rooms. The suites are equipped with a small fridge, a kettle and tea cups. Boiled drinking water, tea, coffee and sugar are provided and included
in the room rate.
Er is een bar, receptie en een restaurant. Het is ook mogelijk om de lodge te bezoeken voor een lunch tijdens een bezoek aan Shimba Hills.
Activiteiten: As one of the largest coastal rainforests in East Africa, it is a vital bird area as well. This forest is also an ideal habitat for leopard, buffalo, antelope, giraffe and elephant as well as playing host to the last breeding herd of indigenous sable antelopes in Kenya.
Another reason to visit this lush area is the chance to trek down to the famous Sheldrick Waterfalls. Follow in Hemingway’s footsteps and head
down to the refreshing pool at the foot of the falls where you can take in the dramatic scenery and picturesque natural landscape. The Reserve also boasts
several breath taking viewing points overlooking the Indian Ocean and Chale Island to the East, the Tsavo plains and Taita Hills to the West and the many
rolling hills and mesmerising forested areas.
